Bing Webmaster Tools
Connect a verified Bing Webmaster Tools site with an API key to add Bing and Copilot search data to your Sommet workspace.
Before you start
You need a site verified in Bing Webmaster Tools. If your site is already in Google Search Console, select Import on the Bing welcome screen. Bing verifies the site from your Google account in one step.
Create an API key
- In Bing Webmaster Tools, open Settings (the gear icon), then API access.
- Select API Key, then Generate API Key.
- Copy the key.
The key gives access to every site of your Bing account. Keep it secret.
Connect
Paste the key
In Sommet, open Settings → Search data, select Connect next to Bing and paste the API key.
Choose the site
Sommet lists the verified sites of the key. Choose the one that matches your workspace domain.
Sommet encrypts the key before it stores it and never shows it again. Removing the connection deletes the key.
What is different from Google
- No average position. The Bing API does not return one, so it shows as unavailable and position-based recommendations are not made.
- Queries and pages are separate. Recommendations name a query, not the page to change.
- More verticals. Bing traffic counts web, chat, news, images, videos and knowledge panels. Its clicks can differ from Google’s for the same site.
- Weekly tables. Traffic updates every day. Top queries and top pages update every week.
Troubleshooting
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Could not load verified Bing sites | Check the key. Generate a new one if you regenerated it in Bing after you copied it. |
| No verified sites were found for this Bing API key | Verify the site in Bing first, or use the key of the account that verified it. |
