How AI assistants pick what to say
The path from a buyer's question to an AI answer that names you, and the order in which to work on your SEO and GEO with Sommet.
A buyer asks ChatGPT “Which tool should I use to track invoices for a small agency?”. The assistant does not search for that sentence. It runs one or more short web searches, such as best invoice tracking software for agencies 2026. It reads the first results, then writes an answer from them.
So an assistant names you when three things are true:
- It can read your pages. Its bots are not blocked, and your pages render as HTML.
- Your page or a page about you ranks for its search. Assistants pick their sources from the first results.
- The pages it reads name you. Your own page, and the third-party lists and reviews it cites next to your competitors.
GEO is mostly SEO on the searches assistants run, plus being listed on the pages they cite. Start by learning to read the dashboard.
Work in this order
| Step | Why | Where in Sommet |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Let AI crawlers in | Nothing else works while a bot is blocked | AI bots line |
| 2. Check your questions | Wrong questions give a wrong score and wrong actions | Questions line |
| 3. Get found for the searches | Assistants cite the first results of their searches | Actions |
| 4. Get listed where AI looks | A third-party list that names you is what assistants repeat | Actions |
| 5. Fix on Google | More clicks from pages that already rank | Actions |
| 6. Review every week | Answers change every week | Weekly recap |
What Sommet does not do
- Sommet does not edit your site. You or your coding agent make the changes. The prompt library helps.
- Sommet does not guarantee a result. An action says what is likely to help and why. AI answers are samples, and they change from week to week.
- Sommet does not recommend tricks. No bought links, no fake reviews, no hidden text, no pages written only for bots. They break Google’s and the assistants’ policies, and they stop working.
