AI assistants search the web before they answer. ChatGPT and Gemini pick their sources from the first results of those searches. So your search positions decide whether an assistant can find your pages at all.

Search data is optional. Connect it to get three things:

1. **Your position for each search an assistant ran.** The Actions page shows where your page ranks for the search behind each answer that missed you.
2. **Google fixes.** Daily audits find queries where a small change can bring more clicks.
3. **A before and after.** When you mark a fix as done, Sommet compares the next full month of search data with the month before.

## Which source to connect

| | Google Search Console | Bing Webmaster Tools |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| How you connect | Sign in with Google, read-only | API key |
| Clicks and impressions | Daily | Daily |
| Average position | Yes | No, the API does not return it |
| Query and page pairs | Yes | No, queries and pages are separate |
| Recommendations | Query and page | Query only |
| Updates | Daily, with a delay of a few days | Traffic daily, top queries and pages weekly |

Connect Google first. Its data links each query to a page, so actions can name the page to change. Add Bing next: Microsoft Copilot answers from Bing's index, and Bing traffic includes chat, news and image results.

A workspace holds one Google property and one Bing site. Charts and tables add both together by default. Use the source filter to see one engine.

## History and refresh

- The first audit imports up to 365 days of daily history, if the source has it.
- Audits then run every day and refresh the recent window.
- Query and page tables use the latest 28-day audit.
- The dashboard shows 30 or 90 days by day, or 12 months by month.

## Your data

Sommet only reads. It never submits sitemaps, changes settings or removes URLs in Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools. Removing a property in **Settings → Search data** deletes its saved audits.
